Agriculture is the most important sector of the African economy and is the second driving force in combating poverty. It accounts for 65% of the continent's employment and 75% of its domestic trade. With all the problems Mehmeh Town faces, the largest single need in the village is food. Even when people band together, they still struggle to provide enough food. Many local NGOs and nearby villages have responded by sending aid in one form or another - all good efforts, but it is still not enough.

In the midst of all these problems, our response is the Hope Farm Project (HF), starting with a 10-acre tract of land that will be home to a large farm providing food and income for about 4,000 people. The HF understands that a simple act of creating a farm can shape issues such as economics, health, and poverty at the same time, because food is an essential focal point of human activity. The Hope Farm Project will be used as a farmers' market, serving not only as a way for people to survive, but also as a way for people to purchase locally grown produce and connect with others within their communities. Purchasing local goods is an experience that promotes a sense of place, which is important in making individuals feel tied to their communities. We believe that this farmers' market will serve as a source of employment and women's empowerment.
